Adrian Hicks is a Musical Director, Trumpet Player and Educator who operates extensively in the field of Music Education and is a big advocate of Community Jazz Big Bands in Western Australia. Graduating from WAAPA he has experience in playing professionally in a variety of styles and has directed many ensembles including; The Oz Big Band, WAYJO NC (inaugural MD and program coordinator), The Metro Big Band (inaugural MD), The Chameleon Brass Band and Wyvern Jazz Band. Besides Big Band Directing and Conducting he has played with; The Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Randa and the Soul Kingdom, Special Brew, The Isolites, The Funkalleros, Shangara Jive, Libby Hammer Big Band and the Straight Ahead Big Band. His experience with live performance (over 300 big band gigs),and as a qualified music teacher means he is often sort after for adjudicating festivals and marking solo jazz performances. Adrian has also spent 20 years teaching Brass to many students young and old and specialises in solving embouchure problems. He enjoys playing and sharing his love of Big Band Music with students and community musicians alike.
