The Kempen Big Band - Swing, groove and pure joy of playing With its 24 musicians, the Kempen Big Band is one of the best known and most popular big bands on the Lower Rhine area. It has been an integral part of the regional jazz and big band scene for years. Founded in 1981, the band has been led by the internationally renowned jazz trumpeter Markus Türk since 1991. Their repertoire includes sophisticated traditional jazz standards as well as rousing funk, rock and Latin tunes. The band's energetic joy of playing is transferred to the audience - whether with classics by Joe Zawinul, Dizzy Gillespie, Sammy Nestico, Miles Davis, Bob Mintzer, Thad Jones or Herbie Hancock, or with modern titles by Roger Cicero, Michael Bublé and Paul Anka. The classic big band line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section has been given a special twist: the young Kempen singer Ilyas Adjana adds his distinctive voice to the band and gives the pieces a fresh, unmistakable sound.
